About Us

Airmatic Lowering Links is a company that specialises in the manufacture of plated fully adjustable lowering links for vehicles that are equipped with Airmatic Suspension Systems.

Back in 2003, I purchased a Mercedes E55 AMG, after a short time I wanted to make the car look unique and searched the main dealers, internet and tuning companies for a method of lowering the car.

The first device I found, was an electronic module costing around £1200.00 that involved splicing 16 cables into the main loom which was a great concern after spending nearly £40,000 on the car.

The next idea that I uncovered is known as the “washer method”. This idea means inserting some cheap metal washers above the locating bracket of the ride height linkage which simply wasn’t an acceptable method for a prestige car.

After comprehensive research we designed a prototype adjustable ride height linkage that fitted in place of the original ride height linkage that allowed the vehicles computer to lower the car.

Once we had extensively tested our prototype lowering kit we employed the services of a local, well established engineering company and decided to invest time and money into developing lowering kits for other cars that are equipped with air or hydraulic suspension.

Fifteen years on and we can now supply a fully adjustable lowering kits for forty two different makes and models of cars.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story of how Airmatic Lowering Links was born and how we have developed into the market leading provider of lowering kits for prestige cars.

How it Works

Cars that have Airmatic and ABC type suspension are fitted with ride height sensors that are mounted to the chassis and connected by linkages to the suspension wishbones and located, in most cases, behind each wheel at the rear of the wheel arch.

Prestige cars installed with auto levelling, height adjustable air suspension are fitted with ride height sensors.

The ride height sensors are fitted to the chassis of the car and connected by linkages to the wishbones and located, in most cases, behind each wheel at the rear of the wheel arch.

The purpose of having ride height sensors is to sense the level of the surface the car is travelling on to aid the automatically levelling of the car.

Our specially designed adjustable lowering linkages replace the standard linkages and by either lengthening or shortening the adjustable linkages the information being sent by the ride height sensor to the cars suspension computer can be altered. The altered information makes the suspension computer think the car is sitting higher than it is which has the effect of lowering the car.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW LOW WILL MY CAR BE WHEN THE LINKAGES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED?

The linkage kit is adjustable and can be adjusted so that your car be lowered by as much as 70mm where practical to do so.

HOW WILL THE RIDE QUALITY BE EFFECTED BY LOWERING MY CAR?

The kit is fully adjustable allowing you to find the perfect balance between ride height and ride comfort.

DO I NEED TO HAVE THE LINKAGES FITTED BY A MECHANIC?

No you will be able to install the linkages using our comprehensive instructions and a limited amount of tools. The tools required are a jack, axle stands, a 9mm & 10mm spanner, ruler of vernier callipers, a wide ended screwdriver and 3 cups of coffee.

DO I NEED TO HAVE THE CAMBER AND ALIGNMENT CHECKED?

If any car is lowered the camber and alignment should be checked. The wheel camber will increase the further you lower your car as a result your tyres may wear on the insides slightly more without having the camber adjusted. Our personal cars have not had any camber alterations as we are happy to sacrifice a little tyre wear for the impressive sporty look you gain with negative camber.

WHAT HEIGHT DO YOU NORMALLY DRIVE YOUR CAR AT?

Low, Very Low. However if I am going on a longer journey I may raise the suspension for a smoother, softer drive but should I decide to have a play I simply select one of the sport modes for improved handling. With the lowering kit being fully adjustable you can lower your car to a height that suits you.
